Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade has been indicted again by a grand jury on Friday. Khobragade has been reindicted on the same criminal charges which was dismissed by a US court on Wednesday.

The court also issued a warrant for her arrest in the US visa fraud case. The mid-level Indian diplomat has been charged with visa fraud and making false statements related to her domestic help Sangeeta Richard.

If Khobragade's charges are ever tried and proved then she would be convicted and get a maximum punishment of 15 years behind the bar.

US attorney Preet Bharara's office issued a statement on Friday that Devyani Khobragade has been indicted on a two-count criminal charge by a grand jury.

At present Devyani Khobragade is in India. She left the US on January 9 within hours of being indicted the first time, under the provision of diplomatic immunity.

On Wednesday, Khobragade's indictment over criminal charges was dismissed by a New York court under the ground of diplomatic immunity. However, the court stated that if Devyani's acts were shown as not being performed in the exercise of official functions, then a new indictment can be brought up against her.

New Delhi has been against the arrest and charges filed against Khobragade, as the Indian diplomat was had been covered by full diplomatic immunity.

The Indian government hopes that the case would be solved according to international norms and conventions as both the countries value the Indo-US bilateral strategic partnership between them.
