As our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, turns 64 today, the mood is one of revelry in PMO and BJP office.

But, as the humble son of soil, Mr. Modi has appealed all to celebrate his birthday by making charitable donations for the relief of Jammu and Kashmir flood victims.

The Prime Minister will be spending his birthday at his home state of Gujarat today. He visited his 95-year-old mother Hiraba in Gandhinagar early today to seek her blessings, a year ritual for Mr. Modi. He bowed and touched her feet and she blessed him with both hands. Then, as a token of her blessings, she donated Rs. 5,001 towards Kashmir relief fund. He spent nearly 25 minutes with her.

Not just family and friends, but a huge gathering of locals assembled outside his Sector 22 residence in Gandhinagar to wish him “Happy birthday Narendrabhai.”

Dressed in his signature half sleeve saffron colored kurta and a hand-woven scarf, Modi was fed churme ke laddoos by his mother. Then he spent some time chatting with his mother.

The Prime Minister’s Office too tweeted: “PM Narendra Modi met his mother Hira Ba in Gandhinagar, Gujarat this morning. The Prime Minister sought the blessings of his mother.”

Later today, Modi is to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping who will be on a three-day sojourn to Ahmedabad from today.

With economy and trade high on his agenda, Chinese president Xi Jinping’s maiden visit to India could be a historic one and set a new paradigm in bilateral ties between the two nations. With the world's second-largest economy and a proven track record at building highways, railways, and industrial zones, China has much to offer India as it seeks to upgrade its creaky infrastructure.
