Taranjit Singh Sandhu who is the Ambassador of India to the United States has presented his credentials to the President of United States Donald Trump in his Oval Office of the White House.The career foreign service official Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been warmly welcomed by Trump during the Oval Office credentials ceremony. The President of the United States has also wished Sandhu success in fulfilling the responsibilities as India’s ambassador to the United States.The Indian Ambassador designate has conveyed the greetings of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President Ram Nath Kovind to Donald Trump. A man has been arrested as a suspect in the murder case of Ranjit Bachchan by a joint team of police and the special task force (STF). The man has been suspected to be the one who has shot the Hindu Mahasabha leader.The man who is said to be suspected to be the shooter in the murder of Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha leader Ranjit Bachchan has been arrested on Wednesday from Mumbai.The source has said that Mumbai being taken into consideration as being connected with the murder of Ranjit Bachchan was done after the call details of the relatives of Bachchan were scrutinized based on which the shooter has been nabbed by the team of police and the special task force on Wednesday.According to the sources, the shooter who has been the accused has allegedly gone into hiding in the city of Mumbai after the incident had taken place.The sources from the police has also said that two other persons have also been taken into custody from the neighboring areas after the shooter was arrested. They had also added saying that the joint team would be reaching Lucknow on Thursday.The Hindu Mahasabha leader also known as the right wing Hindu outfit leader Ranjit Bachchan was shot dead while he was out for a morning walk in Hazratganj. Four persons have been detained earlier on Wednesday by the Special Task Force of the Lucknow police from the places of Gorakhpur and Raebareli.The founder of Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha Ranjeet Bachchan who was 40- years- old had been shot in the head by an unidentified assailant. Aditya Srivastava who is the cousin of Ranjeet Bachchan has also been injuring in the attack that has been made by an unidentified assailant who has also snatched their mobile phones.An eyewitness to the incident of the attack on Ranjeet Bachchan has been quoted. Based on the statement given by the eye witness, the police has said that the attacker had covered himself in a shawl and was on foot.Suspension of four police personnel which also included a sub- inspector has been made regarding the alleged laxity and a case has also been registered at the Hazratganj police station in connection with the incident that had occurred near the Collectorate building.A CCTV footage has been later released by the police in which the suspect has been shown and a reward of Rs 50,000 cash has also been announced by the police for providing any information.By Shrithika Kushangi

The verdict on the central government’s plea regarding the hanging of the convicts in the Nirbhaya case will be pronounced by the High Court of Delhi on Wednesday.The future of the convicts is said to be decided by Justice Suresh Kaith who has been hearing the case. It would also be made clear whether if all the convicts can be hanged together or those with the mercy petitions that have been rejected can be executed earlier.The applications of the convicts had been submitted to the Delhi High Court by the central government with the reasons of the four guilty regarding the case misusing the judicial system which in turn made a delay in their hanging. Their order had been reserved by the high court of Delhi after the completion of the special hearing on Sunday.The verdict is said to be pronounced by the Delhi high court at 2:30pm on Wednesday on the application by the Center. The Nirbhaya’s parents have mentioned the issue before Justice Kaith on Tuesday and had pleaded that the decision to be taken quickly.The curative petition of the three from the four convicts in the Nirbhaya case have already been rejected by the Supreme Court.However, the mercy petitions that have been filed by Mukesh and Vinay were rejected by the President where as the mercy petition that has been filed by Akshay is still pending with the President’s office at the moment.New applications are being submitted repeatedly by the guilty and the mercy petitions are being pending at the court is in turn leading to the postponement as their death warrant has already been stopped twice by the Patiala House Court.A death warrant has been issued by the Patiala high court in order to hang the guilty on the 1st of February but it has been later stopped from being executed as the mercy petition that has been filed at the President’s office by Vinay who is one among the four guilty.The Nirbhaya case is about a gang rape case that took place in the year 2012 and has shook the entire nation. A young woman who was a 23- year- old physiotherapist intern had been gang raped by four men in a moving bus on the night of the 16th of December, 2012 in South Delhi and had been tortured and was later thrown on the streets of Delhi. He has studied at The Lawrence School and had graduated from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi pursuing History Honours. Two unidentified gunmen fired shots at gate number 5 of Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi on Sunday night.This incident has taken place three days after a fire had been opened at protests by a Noida youth in Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi.The reports say that two unidentified men riding scooty had opened a fire on Sunday night in Delhi at the gate number 5 of the Jamia Millia Islamia University where in one of the witness was wearing a red jacket, says an eye witness.The police say that no causalities have been reported so far.A statement has been issued by the Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC) which is a group that comprises students and alumni of the Jamia Millia Islamia University that has been formed in order to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. According to the statement, the attackers were said to be on a red motorcycle.This incident adds up to the two firing incidents in the Jamia Nagar area in a week.The first incident had taken place on Thursday where in a minor fired at anti- CAA protesters who were preparing to march towards the Rajghat from Jamia. A student was reported to get injured in the attackTwo days later, another incident of opening a fire had taken place where in a 25- year- old had fired two rounds in the air at Shaheen Bagh during a protest which was against the newly amended citizenship law. It has been reported that no one has been hurt in the incident.As per the report of the incident that had taken place on Sunday night, two unidentified men had opened a fire at Gate number 5 of Jamia Millia Islamia, one of the them is said to be wearing a red jacket and the scooty which they were riding is said to be of red color bearing the number being either 1532 or 1534.A student had said that they had heard the gunshot to which they had stepped out to see and found that the two unidentified men had been leaving on a scooty. Nirmala Sitharaman who is the Finance Minister of India has said on Saturday during the presentation of the Union Budget that by the year 2024 the development of 100 more airports will be taking place in order to support the UDAN scheme. Sitharaman has said that Rs 1.7 lakh crore has been provided for the infrastructure of the transport in the years 2020-21, as she has presented the Union Budget for 2020-2021.She has added saying that 1,150 trains will be running under the public private partnership (PPP) mode and also the development of four stations would be taking place with the help of the private sector.The Finance Minister has also promised more trains of the Tejas type to be provided in order to connect to the tourist destinations. The court had said that according to the Delhi Prison Rules of the year 2018, if an appeal and application is made by one of the convicts then the execution sentence for all the convicts shall be postponed as well.Prior to the decision taken by the Court on Friday, the black warrants have been issued by the trial court on all the convicts on January 17 and it had been decided that the convicts would be hung at the Tihar jail on 1st of February at 6 in the morning.The death row convicts were of the Nirbhaya case that had taken place in the year 2012 on December 16 which has shook the nation with raging anger. The case is about a 23- year- old woman who had been gang- raped and assaulted in a moving bus in the night of December 16. The plea that has been filed by the death row convicts in the Nirbhaya case has been approved by the Delhi court.The plea was in order to seek a stay on their execution on 1st of February. The postponement of the execution has been announced and it is said that the execution shall be postponed until further orders .The verdict has been delivered by Dharmender Rana who is the Additional Sessions Judge at the Patiala court in Delhi.The convicts Pawan Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Akshay Kumar have been represented by advocate AP Singh. The advocate has urged the court to adjourn the executions “sine die” as the mercy plea of Vinay Kumar which has been placed before the President is pending.The authorities of the Tihar jail have challenged the application of the three prisoners in the case seeking a stay on their execution as only the plea of one convict has been pending and therefore the others can be hanged. This has been opposed by the lawyer of the convict saying that the rules dictate that when there exists pending in the plea of one convicts, the other convicts cannot be hanged.The fourth person who has been sentenced to death in the Nirbhaya case is Mukesh Kumar whose mercy plea has been dismissed by the President Ram Nath Kovind on 17th of January.The convicts are provided with an option of moving a mercy petition before the President only after their curative plea has been dismissed by the apex court.The Nirbhaya case is of a 23- year- old physiotherapy intern who was gang- raped and was assaulted on the night of December 16, 2012 in South Delhi in a moving bus. The convicts in the Sardarpura post- Godhra riots case have been granted bail by the Supreme Court. The 17 convicts of the 2002 case where in 33 Muslims were burnt alive have been granted bail and were asked to relocate to Madhya Pradesh and get indulged in community service.The convicts have been divided into two groups and the the individuals in one group will have to move out of Gujarat and would have to stay at Indore in Madhya Pradesh where as, the other group of convicts would have to relocate themselves to Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, said the bench which has been comprised of Chief Justice S A Bobde and the justices B R Gavai and Surya Kant.The bench has said that the convicts could get themselves healed mentally by taking part in the seminars. The bench has also added saying that the convicts should not enter the state of Gujarat.The bench that was led by Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde have found that the individuals that have been convicted on the basis of the testimonies of either one or two eyewitnesses.The bench has acknowledged the submission that has been made by Ms. Sharma which states that these men have not committed any crime and were released on parole, furlough etc. It also says that they had also returned to the custodyAn appeal has been made by the convicts who were handed down life sentence in the Sardarpura riots case against the Gujarat High Court order convicting them.It has been said by the court that the community services will have to be undertaken by all the convicts for six hours a week besides they also have to report to the local police station on a weekly basis as the conditions of the bail read.The District Legal Services Authorities at Indore and Jabalpur have been directed by the Supreme Court in order to ensure and observe that the conditions of the bail are being diligently followed by the convicts. The DLSA has also been directed by the Supreme Court in order to help the convicts in finding suitable employment for earning their livelihood.The Supreme Court has directed the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Service Authority in order to file a report after a period of three months and to state whether or not the conditions have been compiled by the convicts.The High court of Gujarat has earlier acquitted 14 and has convicted 17 in the Sardarpura post- Godhra riots case.By Shrithika Kushangi
