ICC Test rankings has placed Virat Kohli at his career-best eighth position on Monday. The rise in his Test ranking can be attributed to his good performance in the two-Test series against New Zealand that concluded recently.
The Indian batsman scored 214 runs in four innings against New Zealand, that increased his ranking by one position at eighth. Kohli now has 784 ranking points.
Cheteshwar Pujara is just above Kohli at seventh position in ICC Test ranking. Pujara is still the highest ranked Indian in the ICC Test list of batsmen. South Africa's AB de Villiers is at the top of the ranking for batsmen.
Among Indian bowlers, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, at ninth position, is the highest-ranked Indian Test bowler.
India is placed at second position in Test rankings, a position that can be usurped by Australia, who will move ahead if they can pull a draw against South Africa in the Test series being played by the two teams.
