The Aam Aadmi Party added another feather in its cap by fulfilling its promise to procure night shelters for those without a roof.
The Delhi government has converted old, abandoned Blueline buses as a refuge for the homeless street-dwellers, thereby, bringing thousands some respite from the teeth-chattering Delhi winter.
What more, city's Urban Development Minister Manish Sisodia also blazoned that 100 new night shelters will be built for the homeless to take refuge in the coming few days.
"The bus owners approached us as they have old Blueline buses which are not being used. They have removed the seats and these buses now work as cabins. We are providing the homeless with blankets and some functional costs," an AAP worker said.
"All abandoned buses are being modified into night shelters. They will be provided with blankets and other basic amenities so that the homeless can at the least sleep properly," a post on the AAP's Facebook page said.
Sisodia had apparently sought ideas from NGOs on the matter and was presented with this solution to shelter the homeless in unused buses.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has instructed sub-divisional magistrates to issue a record of homeless people and make sure that they were provided with shelters at night.
