In a big achievement BJP got TMC, AIADMK and BSP to support for the Mines and Minerals Bill, scheduled to be taken up in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. This will be a very big jolt to Congress which is trying to derail the development activities initiated by the Modi government. Opposition led by congress forced deferment of consideration of the contentious Mines and Minerals Bill in Rajya Sabha till today, arguing that mineral-bearing states had not been consulted. House saw four adjournments of brief spells in quick succession after members from Congress and Left, opposing taking up of discussion on Mines and Minerals Bill, created uproar.
Congress members trooped into the well shouting slogans that the “dictatorship of BJP” will not be allowed. “If you want to oppose, oppose the bill. Why are you obstructing? As a responsible party, you should not do it. It is unbecoming of you,” Deputy Chairman P J Kurien told the Opposition members who were shouting slogans.
Congress members stormed the Well of the House and demanded that the Mines and Minerals Bill to be again sent to the select committee which already scrutinised the proposed legislation and presented its report to the House only on Wednesday. Congress which has been drubbed in the Lok Sabha elections by not even to secure numbers to claim for opposition leader and subsequently lost assembly elections and scored a ZERO in Delhi election is frustrated due to the lack of power. Taking advantage of the numbers in Rajya Sabha, congress is trying its level best to derail the development agenda of the NDA government.
