On Wednesday, the centre issued astandard operating procedures (SOPs) for restarting Metro services under the unlock 4.0 guidelines to strengthen back the disturbed economy due to the virus.

Except for Maharashtra, all the Metro rail services across India will begin in phases from September 7th and will fully start operating by September 12th.

Trains won’t stop at stations where passengers are not following social distancing rules, says Hardeep Puri, the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs.

The Government will take a strict action against those who don’t follow social distancing norms. This would include “naming and shaming” of Metro rail passengers.

The decision of operating metro sail services might be re-considered if passengers are found crowding at metro stations.

“We will name and shame those violating norms of social distancing and those not wearing masks at Metro rail stations...If there is wilful disregard, you have CCTVs (closed-circuit TVs), there will be no hesitation (in acting against these violators). When a person misbehaves in an aircraft, we put them in a no flyers’ list ... I think there is also an element of naming and shaming. If an individual’s misbehaviour results in jeopardising a public utility which is vital in the life of a city or a country, obviously there is little tolerance for such behaviour,” Puri had said on Wednesday

Metro rail services will gradually increase the public transport capacity across India, precisely Delhi even though there are many COVID-19 cases past few days.

Durga Shanker Mishra, secretary, ministry of housing and urban affairs said, there would be markings at Metro Stations for maintaining social distance and even on seats in the train. From the control room, video cameras would monitor if the passengers are adhering to the rules or not.

“If the number of passengers entering stations is more than what we can manage, we will certainly restrict their entry,” said Mangu Singh, chief, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

This decision of resuming metro rail services is taken by the Government to boost up economic activities.
