BJP and its alliance NDA have finalized Droupadi Murmu as the Presidential candidate and the polls will take place in July. the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting was held last evening and they nominated Droupadi Murmu, the Governor of Jharkhand as the Presidential candidate. Droupadi Murmu is from Odisha and is the first Tribal woman to be the President of the country. The opposition parties declared Yashwant Singha as the Presidential candidate and he is the former Finance Minister of the country. BJP conducted a long meeting and all the crucial leaders of the country participated in the meeting.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah along with Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, BL Santosh, JP Nadda and others were present. JP Nadda said that they spoke to the leaders of various parties and they fielded a common NDA candidate in the polls. "Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji has devoted her life to serving society and empowering the poor, downtrodden as well as marginalized. She has rich administrative experience and had an outstanding gubernatorial tenure. I am confident she will be a great President of our nation" posted Narendra Modi after the announcement was made. There were rumors that Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will be the next Presidential candidate but Droupadi Murmu's name was announced.
