Heavy Rains Lash Hyderabad: City on High Alert

The heavy rains in the capital of Telangana, Hyderabad brought things to a standstill. The rains are on for the past five days in a row and the low-lying regions are completely drowned. With the huge downpour, the government of Telangana issued a high alert in the capital and the schools are asked to shut for three days. The state cabinet is in plans to extend the holidays till this weekend considering the rains. The Indian Meteorological Department issued red and orange alerts for various Telangana districts. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao asked the people not to step out until there is an emergency. Several corporate firms asked their employees to work from home.

All the rivers are overflowing and the water bodies are completely filled. KCR is closely monitoring the situation and he instructed the irrigation officials to discharge the water from the Godavari river into Sri Ram Sagar project and other reservoirs in the state. The IMD revealed that the state will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next two days in the state. MLAs, government officials and Collectors are asked to cancel their leaves and they have been asked to be present in their regions to serve the needy. There is no loss of life reported in Telangana till date. The GHMC officials are taking care of the rescue operations. KCR held a high-level meeting for 12 hours yesterday. KCR instructed Engineer-In-Chief (Irrigation) C Muralidhar to take measures in issues related to submergence due to the backwaters at the water bodies and reservoirs.
