The Supreme Court dismissed a request from Prashant Kishor's party to delay the by-elections in Bihar due to the Chhath festival. The court noted that the festival had already ended and should not interfere with the election schedule. The Election Commission had previously postponed polling in Uttar Pradesh due to festivals, but the court questioned if there was a "festive hangover" in Bihar. The court emphasized that all preparations for the voting had been made and it should not intervene.
The court advised Mr Singhvi to withdraw from the political matter, stating that it is too late to consider his request as none of the major parties have raised any concerns. The four Assembly seats have been left vacant after the sitting members were elected to the Lok Sabha in the recent general election, and the Assembly elections in Bihar are scheduled for next year.
