The contest for Bihar's 40 Lok Sabha seats will be fought in alliance by the Congress and Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The two parties have managed to agree on a seat-sharing alliance before the general elections to maximize their gains in Bihar.

According to CNN-IBN news reports on Wednesday, Congress will get 12 seats, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will get one, while the RJD will contest from 27 seats in Bihar's 40 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Earlier, the RJD had offered 11 seats to the Congress and one to NCP, which was not accepted.

However, the news channel reportedly said that as of now there is no clarity on seat distribution. Congress is interested in East Champaran, Madhubani, Jehanabad, Bhagalpur and Nawada constituencies. However, these are the strongholds of RJD, which would like to field their own candidates.

Some party member from Bihar Congress are not in favour of alliance with the RJD, as it's viewed as a headless party. RJD chief Lalu Yadav has been barred from contesting elections due to his conviction in the fodder scam case recently.

Even Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is reportedly not interested in allying with Lalu Yadav.
