It is likely that Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is set to visit the UK on 12 November 2015, would raise the issue concerning radical Sikh organizations with David Cameron, his counterpart. The Hindu quoted a senior government official as saying that India would probably ask the UK to rein in Sikh television channels promoting radical sentiments among the Diaspora.
PM may also talk on the possibility of channels being funded by ISI of Pakistan and need to launch an investigation by the concerned authorities. The background behind this is the revival of pro-Khalistan sentiments in Punjab. The state witnessed protests and violence regarding the desecration of holy books of the Sikhs.
The government official said, “We have prepared a detailed report on how the Sikh television channels being run in the U.K were promoting the separatist movement.”
The Hindu reported that, according to a senior Home Ministry official, incidents of torn-up pages of the Guru Granth Sahib outside a gurdwara in Faridkot last month were a part of a “design” to stir up militancy.
