Manipur Violence: Guilty Will Not Be Spared: Narendra Modi

Manipur violence started between communities over the order to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Meitei Community on April 19th. July 20th, which is nearly 3 months after the outburst, the violence still continues in Manipur. The people of Manipur are shouting with blood and pain. Two days before a video of Kuki-Zomi community women went viral saying that they were made naked and were sexually assaulted on a road by a mob of men. In another incident, there was a police complaint lodged on May 18th saying that the mob are pulling the younger woman and brutally raping them in broad daylight. Even the police were unable to stop them as the mob are large in number and seized the police too.

This has reached Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Before starting the monsoons parliament sessions Modi addressed the press and said his heart is filled with pain and anger. “THE ACTS ARE SHAMEFUL TO THE DEMOCRACY AND QUESTIONS THE CIVILISATION”, said Modi. He called the Manipur incident a shameful act for civilization. He called all the chief ministers to strengthen the law and to take action against any crimes on women. Either Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh or Manipur, the culprit should not be scout free, said Narendra Modi in a painful voice.
