Actor Vijay, whose party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, or TVK, will launch its political journey in the upcoming assembly election in Tamil Nadu next year, has mentioned that his party plans to compete for many seats. During the party's second state meeting in Madurai, which was attended by thousands of enthusiastic supporters, he ruled out forming any partnerships with the ruling DMK or the BJP, emphasizing his intention to operate independently. He stated that the BJP is the party's "only ideological enemy" and the DMK is the "only political enemy," proclaiming, "I am a lion. I’m establishing my presence. The TVK is a powerful force ready to take charge." He emphasized, "There will be no partnerships," pointing out that the 2026 election in Tamil Nadu will be a contest between the DMK and TVK. "TVK's political approach is authentic, heartfelt, and aimed at improving the lives of people. Our main focus is on ensuring the safety of women, the elderly, and children. Our administration will be supportive of those needing extra help, including farmers, the youth, transgender individuals, underserved senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities," said the actor.
He also addressed popular topics like the return of Katchatheevu and the elimination of the medical entrance exam NEET, challenging the Central government to take action on these matters. "Eight hundred fishermen from Tamil Nadu have faced attacks from the Sri Lankan Navy. To protect our fishermen, we need Katchatheevu (islands) back and give it to us... Remove NEET! Can you manage that, Narendra Modi avargal?" he said, prompting thunderous applause from the audience. The historic city of Madurai, regarded as the center of Tamil heritage, is crucial to Tamil politics. Once a stronghold of AIADMK, it has now been taken over by the DMK. Choosing Madurai as the venue for his party's second state conference showcases Vijay's confidence—a political statement to southern Tamil Nadu and an attempt to unite the anti-DMK voters.
